Pharmacy Technician - IV Sterile Compounding
About The Position
This full-time position is responsible for developing competence in dispensing and delivery of medications, including proficiency with the department's information systems, technology, and automation for dispensing and storage. The role involves preparing non-sterile products according to USP, state, and federal recommendations, entering medication orders into the computer system, and processing medication requests. A key responsibility is managing phone calls from customers and team members, accurately understanding and resolving issues or escalating them appropriately. The technician will also develop competence in pharmacy procedures and documentation to meet legal, regulatory, and department requirements, ensuring compliance with controlled substance procedures, USP procedures, and DNV requirements.
Requirements
- High School Graduate.
- Good mathematics skills.
- Attention to details.
- Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the work day.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs from floor to chest level; lift and carry up to 35 lbs at waist height a reasonable distance; push/pull with 30 lbs of force.
Nice To Haves
- Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board needs to be obtained within 2 years, or Pharmacy Technician Certified (CPhT) issued by the National Healthcare Association needs to be obtained within 2 years.
Responsibilities
- Develops competence in dispensing and delivery of medications.
- Develops competence in the department’s use of information systems, technology, and automation used for dispensing and storage of medications.
- Develops competence in preparing non-sterile products following USP, state, and federal recommendations, as required.
- Develops competence in entering medication orders in the computer system and/or processing medication requests via the computer system.
- Develops competence in managing phone calls from customers and team members such as nurses, physicians or patients.
- Develops competence in pharmacy procedures and documentation as required, satisfying legal, regulatory, and department requirements of pharmacy practice.
- Complies with legal, regulatory, accreditation standards. This includes (but is not limited to) controlled substance procedures, USP procedures and DNV requirements.
