About The Position

As an integral member of the Pharmacy Services Inpatient/Outpatient Operations Team, the Pharmacy Technician Intern is responsible for performing all technical aspects of prescription preparation including compounding (as per master worksheets) and dispensing responsibilities, as assigned. The role involves replenishing stock medication supplies for assigned areas, ensuring patient information is updated and maintained in the pharmacy information systems, and completing all required reports and documentation. The intern will also attend and participate in staff and patient training/educational functions within their scope of practice, perform workload measurement support functions, and engage in pharmacy purchasing and/or receiving related activities. Participation in inventory counts and performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification are also expected. Pharmacy Technician Interns must always practice under the supervision of a Part A pharmacist or a Part A pharmacy technician.

Requirements

  • Completion of a two-year community college Pharmacy Technician Program or recognized equivalent required.
  • Registration as an Intern Technician in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
  • Ability to work variable shifts.
  • Standing and walking for several hours at a time.
  • Light lifting of boxes
  • Sitting and repetitive hand motions for several hours at a time (e.g. sterile compounding).
  • Accurate hand/eye coordination of fine movements (e.g., data entry, preparing/dispensing medications, preparation of IV products).

Nice To Haves

  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians (CAPT) preferred.
