About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician III will assist and support the pharmacist in the day-to-day dispensing operation of patient care. The dispensing operation includes gathering the appropriate medication, restocking of automated dispensing cabinets, utilization of various medication technologies that optimize workflow and efficiency in the pharmacy, compliant handling of controlled substances, researching data in the EPIC computer system, compounding medications, maintaining appropriate and adequate stock, and other duties related to dispensing medication to the patient. The Pharmacy Technician III will prioritize work based on immediate need and rapidly changing workload. The Pharmacy Technician III will work as a team member to efficiently, accurately perform day-to-day work along with any additional tasks or projects to help achieve departmental goals. The Pharmacy Technician III tasks will include those of a Technician I and II, but with more advanced duties. They will help with maintaining, changing, and implementing new workflows, technology/automation, and process improvement projects. The Pharmacy Technician III will work in partnership with the pharmacist manager/supervisor to develop and streamline pharmacy improvement initiatives, including projects aimed at meeting departmental goals. and to be actively involved in the training process for new employees. The technician will be expected to become proficient in aseptic technique to assist pharmacist in compounding intravenous products.

Requirements

  • High School/GED plus Three (3) years of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or retail setting
  • Pharmacy Technician License through the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy.
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PCTB)
  • Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office and EMR experience)
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

  • Proficient in aseptic technique to assist pharmacist in compounding intravenous products.

Responsibilities

  • Filling medication orders, selecting the right medications, brand, form, strength, and quantity, and accurately counting and packaging the medication.
  • Accurate, efficient delivery of medications to automated dispensing cabinets, including stockouts.
  • May also prepare compounded medications, IV fluids, and other mixtures for patients.
  • Adhere to pharmacy laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain proper handling of controlled substances.
  • Taking inventory, ordering supplies, checking goods received, and reviewing pharmacy stock for expired drugs.
  • May also assist in review of compounding facility monitoring to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
