About The Position

Under the direction of a staff pharmacist and/or pharmacy leadership team, the Certified Pharmacy Technician III performs advanced technical and operational duties to support safe, timely pharmacy services and medication distribution in compliance with departmental procedures and applicable state and federal regulations. The technician prepares, packages, labels, and distributes medications and supplies; supports inventory control and storage standards; documents work in pharmacy information systems; completes quality/safety checks (including storage audits) and escalates discrepancies; and handles controlled substances per policy. The role also monitors daily operations for process compliance and supports onboarding and technical training, including site-specific documentation and competency tracking.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Pharmacy Technician [State License] required
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required
  • Experience as a pharmacy technician, preferably in a healthcare or retail pharmacy setting 3-5 years required
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions, including department policies and procedures
  • Understand HIPAA privacy rules and will use discretion handling patient related information
  • Ability to adhere to safety requirements for handling non-hazardous and hazardous medications in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
  • Proficient with math calculations associated with assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to distinguish routine functions from those requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment
  • Ability to work with sustained attention and care on routine, repetitive tasks
  • Knowledge and ability to handle controlled substances in accordance with state regulations
  • Multitask and prioritize tasks under time constraints. Organize and maintain efficient work areas
  • Command of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to , robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems
  • Consistently demonstrate initiative and self-motivation to complete work with minimal supervision

  • Familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information systems.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and effectively communicates with patients and caregivers to gather information and/or triage inquiries.
  • Audits medication storage areas utilizing data collection tools, if applicable.
  • Handles and prepares all controlled substances in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Assists with the training of junior pharmacy technician and trainee team members.
  • Understands the complex medication needs of patients and coordinates with pharmacy and medical/nursing staff to meet those needs while providing extraordinary service, if applicable.
  • Assists with the organization of the pharmacy's inventory and operational flow.
  • Assists with preparing daily work reports, conducting safety and quality assurance audits, and participating in inventory management and control, if applicable.
  • Monitors overall performance to ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational policies, practices, and approved pharmaceutical processes.
  • Assists managers and supervisors with plans following audit results, identifying opportunities for process improvement efforts, facility changes, or additional employee education, if applicable.
  • Responsible for the coordination of onboarding and training new employees, including managing site-specific documentation and performing competency assessments.
