About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Pharmacy Tech II (Medication History Technician) for our Inpatient/ED team at Martha Jefferson Hospital. This role performs the technician responsibilities of clinical pharmacy care delivery under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. The Pharmacy Tech II demonstrates advanced technical skills and ownership of the work area, with the ability to work independently in defined areas of pharmacy practice competently. They assume local and/or system responsibility for assigned tasks related to advanced clinical job positions and participate in the training of new employees. Key duties include filling and delivering medications, ensuring adequate supplies, triaging and escalating issues, using appropriate systems for patient information, maintaining quality assurance, operating pharmacy equipment, and participating in clinical initiatives to improve patient care. Training in an advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician job function is provided, and other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy technician license is required in the state of practice
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)
  • 2 Years of Pharmacy Experience (Required)

Responsibilities

  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
  • Participates in clinical initiatives to continuously improve patient care
  • Participates in the training of new employees
