This position assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. The Pharmacy Technician I accurately selects, prepares, and labels medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. They also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and handle daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Additional duties may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The role may involve participating in quality improvement initiatives, assisting in training other technicians, and supporting area leaders. Responsibilities also include data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and potentially third-party billing functions. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care knowledge and skills and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle for medication delivery may also be required.
