Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. This role involves medication distribution, procurement, inventory control, and documentation. The Pharmacy Technician will also perform nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, where applicable. They will inspect medication storage areas, complete medication admission histories, and may participate in quality improvement initiatives or assist in training other technicians. The position requires adherence to all organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and supports area leaders. Responsibilities also include patient demographic information gathering, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision. Additionally, the technician may be responsible for operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and medical supplies between pharmacy locations.
