Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs a variety of clerical, distributive, technical and data gathering duties in order to provide medications for patient care consistent with the Pharmacy Technician II role expectations outlined by the region/area specific career ladder. This role involves assisting licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The position also includes screening phone calls, assisting with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture where applicable. The Pharmacy Technician I is responsible for inspecting medication storage areas, completing documentation for controlled substances, and obtaining/recording patient demographic information for record keeping, insurance verification, and label generation. The role also involves cashiering and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The incumbent must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision.
