This position is responsible for the proper storage and distribution of drugs, receiving and accounting for drugs from vendors, and delivering medications to patient care and other areas. The role involves picking up drug returns and applicable paperwork, and restocking returned unit-dose products. Responsibilities include filling patient drug boxes, floor stock orders, and automated dispensing cabinets, assisting pharmacists as directed, and maintaining a daily report. The Pharmacy Technician I must accurately fill floor stock requests, prepare correct labeling for bulk drugs, and perform basic pharmaceutical calculations. A basic understanding of physical and chemical stability for parenteral pharmaceuticals is required, along with the ability to correctly interpret physician orders and distinguish them from other types of orders. The role also includes performing monthly medication storage area inspections, selecting drugs from stock in the proper dose, dosage form, and quantity under pharmacist supervision, understanding microbial contamination, and exhibiting aseptic technique when preparing sterile pharmaceutical products. Repackaging drugs into unit-of-use containers is also a key responsibility.
