Assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications for patients, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The Pharmacy Technician I also assists with medication distribution tasks, screens phone calls, and handles daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Specific duties may include performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing documentation for controlled substances. The position may also involve obtaining and recording patient demographic information, data entry into the pharmacy system, third-party billing functions, and potentially performing immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the role may require operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies between pharmacy locations.
