Summary: This role is an on-the-job, paid training with hands-on learning experience aimed to obtaining a Florida State Pharmacy Technician registration. The role works under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, and alongside other licensed pharmacy technicians to become proficient in performing pharmacy related duties in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. The Pharmacy Technician Extern position requires enrollment and participation in the Florida Board of Pharmacy approved Employer-Based Pharmacy Training Program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Complexity of Work: Requires critical thinking skills, effective communication skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work well with others in a team with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to respond positively in a stressful environment and meet the physical demands of the department.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Complete the Pharmacy Technician Employer Training Program and obtain registration as a Pharmacy Technician in the state of Florida within six (6) months of starting the program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares, fills, receives, delivers, stocks and restocks medication inventory and supplies for the pharmacy department and drug storage areas.
  • Repackages bulk medications.
  • Responsible for assisting with orientation and training of new pharmacy technicians and students.
  • Maintains and supports medication distribution systems and distribution channels, including automated dispensing cabinets, code carts, trays and kits.
  • Processes medication charges/credits when applicable.
  • Performs prescription data entry in pharmacy system when applicable.
  • Prepares non-sterile compounded medications, including hazardous medications and cross trains in more advance functions when deem appropriate
  • Assists with customer service and patient needs, including answering telephones, managing work queues and completing medication histories.
  • Completes other responsibilities as assigned in support of pharmacy operations and within the pharmacy technician scope of practice.
