About The Position

The purpose of the pharmacy technician is to assist the registered pharmacist to dispense prescription medications and DME, identify patients in need of financial assistance and determine what assistance is available to them and support patients in accessing prescribed medications. The Pharmacy Technician works in a retail pharmacy primarily serving a federally qualified health center.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination of experience and training which provide the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Montana Pharmacy Technician certification -AND- Pharmacy Technician certification through the Institute for Certified Pharmacy Technicians
  • Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, or divide quickly and correctly.
  • Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Knowledge and understanding of protected sensitive patient health information (HIPAA) and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Input patient, insurance, prescription, provider, drug and charge account information into the pharmacy software system.
  • Process new and refill prescriptions and resolve errors in the pharmacy software system.
  • Process and prepare prescriptions for Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
  • Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification by pulling bulk stock bottles, counting tablets, measuring and pouring liquids, bubble packing medications and affixing prescription labels.
  • File completed prescriptions in the pharmacy pick-up area.
  • File hard-copy prescriptions in numeric order by prescription number in files of 100 and put in designated storage area.
  • Check out prescriptions on the register including verifying correct patient and charging to correct charge account (when applicable).
  • Perform end-of-day register duties including putting money collected and reports in fiscal lockbox.
  • Participate in end-of-month and end-of-year billing process and send statements to appropriate recipients.
  • Print weekly return-to-stock list, pull prescriptions from pharmacy pick-up area, void prescriptions in pharmacy software system and return drugs to stock supply.
  • Print daily drug order list from pharmacy software system and send to pharmacy distributor.
  • Receive, check in, and put away daily drug order.
  • Order office supplies as needed according to organization policy and procedure.
  • Monitor drug inventory for outdated medications and make proper adjustments.
  • Participate in complete pharmacy medication inventory as requested, annually or semi-annually.
  • Answer patient questions and provide customer service (in person and on the phone), while referring all clinical medication questions to the registered pharmacist.
  • Identify customers requiring financial assistance to obtain prescriptions and refer to appropriate resources.
  • Assist patients with all aspects of the Medication Assistance Program (MAP) application process including completing of application, obtaining necessary financial verification documentation (as dictated by pharmaceutical company), obtaining physician signature on application and faxing application to appropriate company.
  • Receive all MAP deliveries, scan received orders into MAP software system, notify patient that medication has arrived and complete documentation in MAP software system.
  • Create telephone encounters, look up pertinent information and scan documents into the clinic electronic health record as needed
  • Participate in organization committees or groups as requested.
  • Communicate and collaborate with staff in other departments, as well as other organizations, as needed to assist patients with medication related needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the RiverStone’s mission and goals.
