The Pharmacy Technician – Central Inpatient supports one of Cleveland Clinic's highest-volume inpatient pharmacies, located on the lower level of the H Building at Main Campus. Serving a wide range of specialties including general inpatient, oncology, sterile products, operating room, and pediatrics, this role provides broad exposure to inpatient pharmacy operations. Caregivers rotate through multiple pharmacy functions, including medication distribution, carousel operations, triaging phone calls and medication requests, managing medication administration record (MAR) communications, and delivering medications throughout Main Campus. This position requires extensive collaboration with pharmacists and clinical care teams, along with significant walking across hospital departments. Following successful training and demonstrated competency, caregivers may have opportunities to expand into additional pharmacy practice areas—including IV services, ambulatory, specialty, and home care pharmacy—based on departmental needs and availability. A caregiver in this position will work evening shifts from 2:00pm to 10:30pm and every 3rd weekend.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds
  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).
  • Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy within 18 months from the date of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
