About The Position

This role involves ordering pharmaceuticals and IV supplies, managing inventory levels to meet budgetary goals, and adjusting inventory in response to external disasters. The position requires determining product selection based on various factors including contract pricing, availability, and patient safety. It also includes checking orders against invoices, utilizing computer systems for purchase orders, and employing barcoding and automation for productivity and safety. The role also covers inventory distribution, ensuring timely delivery of pharmaceuticals and accurate filling of requisitions for ancillary areas. Management of controlled substances in adherence to regulations is also a key responsibility. Furthermore, the position involves processing purchase requisitions and invoices, managing rebates, credits, and returns, determining alternate product sources, and monitoring the arrival of new products. Coordination of department activities includes managing outdated pharmaceuticals, adhering to chemotherapy and hazardous substance policies, ensuring patient confidentiality, and training technicians and students under the direction of a registered pharmacist. Familiarity with equipment operation and timely reporting of problems are also expected.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Certified or Registered Pharmacy Tech required.
Previous Buyer experience is required.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills required.
Working knowledge of Word and Excel is required.
Must be able to type at least 30wpm.

Nice To Haves

Pharmacy experience is preferred.
Lawson experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

Ordering pharmaceuticals and IV supplies.
Assigning purchase order numbers and documenting all purchases accurately.
Monitoring inventory levels to ensure proper quantities are ordered to achieve budgetary goals.
Adjusting inventory levels to respond to external disasters.
Notifying wholesalers and suppliers for timely product receipt to ensure quality.
Determining product selection based on contract pricing, order quantity, availability, purchase history, and patient safety considerations.
Checking orders against corresponding invoices for accurate and complete delivery.
Placing purchase orders using a computer when applicable.
Utilizing barcoding, on-line ordering, and automation to enhance productivity and safety.
Employing the best contractual pricing, delivery, and terms when Prime Vendor is not used.
Monitoring allocation and shortages of medication to ensure optimal inventory.
Delivering pharmaceuticals and replacing pharmacy stock in a timely manner.
Filling requisitions accurately for ancillary areas while observing recommended stock levels.
Inputting all necessary information into the inventory financial system for proper account crediting or debiting.
Ordering and managing controlled substances in adherence to department, State, and DEA regulations.
Monitoring PAR LEVELS for changes in usage, with an emphasis on high-cost medications.
Forwarding invoices and necessary paperwork to the Accounting Department promptly.
Processing rebates, credits, and returns promptly and completely.
Determining alternate sources of product and documenting loaned and borrowed activity.
Monitoring the arrival of new products to ensure charge codes are in effect prior to distribution.
Communicating with vendors and wholesalers to correct problems and avert shortages.
Maintaining accurate invoices and paperwork for charity and mission organizations.
Storing outdated pharmaceuticals separately until returned to the manufacturer or reverse distributor.
Strictly adhering to chemotherapy and hazardous substance policy and procedures.
Conducting ongoing surveillance of stock to pull all outdated products.
Following Hospital policies on patient confidentiality for all medications.
Training technicians, pharmacy students, and pharmacy interns under the direction of a registered pharmacist.
Being familiar with the operation of printers, pumps, and other equipment used in daily operations.
Reporting problems in a timely and constructive manner.
