Join a growing specialty pharmacy team where your pharmacy technician experience directly supports patients navigating complex medication needs, insurance barriers, refill coordination, and specialty pharmacy access. This is a meaningful opportunity for a technician who enjoys patient communication, problem-solving, workflow ownership, and the ability to make a difference beyond the traditional retail or dispensing environment. As a Pharmacy Technician 2 in the Specialty Pharmacy Call Center, you will help connect patients to the medications, support, and resources they need while working within a collaborative, development-focused team. This hybrid role offers the structure of weekday hours, hands-on specialty pharmacy training, and the opportunity to grow within an expanding area of pharmacy services at UVA Health. The Role In this role, you will serve as a key point of contact for patients, pharmacists, clinics, and internal pharmacy partners. The work blends patient-facing communication with prescription processing, insurance issue resolution, refill management, medication shipment coordination, and support for specialty pharmacy operations. A successful Pharmacy Technician 2 in this environment is organized, adaptable, comfortable balancing calls and queue-based work, and motivated by helping patients access complex therapies. You will be trusted to work with independence while remaining connected to a highly collaborative team through active peer support, trainer support, and regular manager communication. On an average day, you may: Take incoming patient calls through the Genesis phone system and provide responsive, professional support. Process new specialty pharmacy prescriptions and support refill reminder outreach. Resolve insurance rejections, medication-related issues, and workflow barriers that affect timely access to therapy. Make outbound patient calls and coordinate with pharmacists, clinics, and other stakeholders. Manage assigned primary and secondary work queues while contributing to specialty clinic outreach activities. Support operational pharmacy activities during onsite days, including cross-training into pharmacy operations. Participate in process improvement initiatives and special projects that help enhance the patient and team experience. This position is especially well-suited for pharmacy technicians with experience in retail, hospital, specialty pharmacy, insurance processing, prescription entry, patient outreach, or workflow management. Specialty pharmacy experience is valuable, but technicians with strong pharmacy fundamentals, customer service skills, and comfort working independently can be highly successful in this role.
