About The Position

Performs technical, clerical and distributive pharmacy functions under the direction of a licensed pharmacist. Responsibilities include patient care, administrative tasks, and compliance with regulations and safety protocols. The role requires the use of pharmacy technology and collaboration with other pharmacy personnel.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • License with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy
  • Understanding of computers, and competence in using computers and basic software programs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic calculations for prescription order processing and compounding with accuracy.
  • Communicates with patient care units to ensure efficient discharge medication delivery.
  • Provides general assistance and support to pharmacist staff including prescription input, medication filling and labeling, answering phone calls, processing prescription payment.
  • Submits electronic orders to medical providers office to request prescription refills or prior authorization assistance.
  • Communicates with patients to provide an update on the prescription status when issues are encountered and/or when prescription is not on stock.
  • Alerts pharmacists when a new prescription is picked up in order for the pharmacist to provide medication counseling.
  • Demonstrates the ability to utilize pharmacy technology such as pharmacy software system, electronic health records, automated dispensing machines and others.
  • Handles with care prescriptions that entails hazardous drugs.
  • Operates a multi-line telephone device, monitors fax requests, reviews voicemail messages, responds to emails and manages the will call report.
  • Processes, submits, receives and distributes wholesale orders including controlled substances appropriately.
  • Audits and tracks inventory to prevent excess inventory, correct discrepancies, remove expired items.
  • Completes closing procedures including but not limited to running end of day reports, counting the money at the point of sale system, emptying shred bins, filling drawers with vials and others.
  • Collaborates with the department manager, lead pharmacist and other pharmacy personnel on all aspects of quality improvement of pharmacy services.
  • Assists new hire technicians with orientation and training.
  • Support maintain over the counter section.
  • Maintains knowledge of downtime procedures.
  • Reviews department policy and procedures.
  • Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
  • If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
  • Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
  • Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.
