About The Position

The purpose of this role is to define the job description of a pharmacy technician. The job description and responsibility of a pharmacy technician is to assist the pharmacist in pharmaceutical services. The pharmacy technician may assist the pharmacist in performing specific tasks in accordance with specific written policy and procedures established by the pharmacist in charge. All tasks performed by the pharmacy technician must be supervised, checked, and approved by the supervising pharmacist.

Requirements

  • Current Pharmacy Technician license under the provisions of the Arkansas Pharmacy Practice Act and Arkansas Pharmacy Regulations.
  • Requires repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., preparing IV admixtures, use of computer keyboard).
  • May require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 pounds), including boxes, equipment, unit dose-cassettes, and IV solutions and stooping or kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves).
  • Requires sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time (4-8 hours).
  • Must be able to physically operate the equipment used for the job.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent is preferred but not required.
  • Prior Hospital experience in a hospital setting will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Placing, packing, pouring, or putting in a container for dispensing any drug. This shall also include the adding of water for reconstitution of oral antibiotic liquids.
  • Placing in or affixing upon any container a label.
  • Selecting, taking from, and replacing upon shelves in the prescription department of a pharmacy drugs to be dispensed.
  • Pre-packing and labeling of multi-dose and unit-dose packages of medication. The pharmacist must establish the procedures, including selection of containers, labels and lot numbers and must check the finished task.
  • Nursing unit checks in a hospital for proper medication storage and other related floor stock medication issues. Any related medication storage problems or concerns shall be documented and initialed by the pharmacist.
  • Refilling the automated dispensing system after replacement inventories have been checked by the pharmacist.
  • Other duties within the State Board of Pharmacy Law regulations for pharmacy technicians that is deemed necessary by the pharmacist in charge.
