About The Position

Hematology Oncology Associates of CNY (HOACNY) is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Tech to work as a Preauthorization Specialist. The role requires a clear understanding of medical insurance benefits and experience obtaining benefits information from insurance companies, including Medicare. The specialist must have in-depth knowledge of insurance preauthorization processes, including the patient documentation needed to obtain approval for services, and an understanding of peer-to-peer and appeal processes when a preauthorization is denied.

Requirements

• High school-level education required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician credential required.
• Experience working with patient insurance benefits, preauthorizations, and referrals.
• Familiarity with navigating insurance company websites.
• Excellent phone skills and organizational skills.
• Ability to identify and investigate problems and arrive at a solution.
• Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and maintain professionalism.
• Computer application skills.
• Ability to accept change.

Nice To Haves

• Understanding of billing claims submitted to insurance companies is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and review patient medical insurance benefits from insurance companies, including Medicare.
• Manage insurance preauthorization processes and identify the patient documentation needed to obtain approval for services.
• Understand and address peer-to-peer and appeal processes when preauthorization is not approved.
• Work with patient insurance benefits, preauthorizations, and referrals.
• Navigate insurance company websites.
• Identify and investigate problems and work toward solutions.
