About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The position involves maintaining an established inventory of drugs and supplies, re-ordering and stocking items to ensure immediate availability. It requires maintaining competency and following departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role also includes operating, troubleshooting, monitoring, and cleaning departmental automation and equipment, ensuring pharmacist product verification, and facilitating timely medication distribution. Accurate record-keeping, patient profile maintenance, and timely response to customer needs via phone calls and message triaging are essential. The position requires understanding and implementing time management and prioritization of tasks for safe patient care. It also involves assisting with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards. Regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including product integrity and expiration, are part of the duties. Maintaining competency and following departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines for handling hazardous and non-hazardous products is crucial. The role includes participating in professional activities to stay knowledgeable about current trends, completing required training and competency assessments, and attending educational in-services. Assistance in the orientation and training of new personnel may be required, and the role may serve as a resource for less experienced staff. Other duties as assigned or requested may be performed.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.

Responsibilities

Procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
Maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-orders and stocks items upon delivery.
Maintains competency and follows departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
Properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment.
Ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications.
Maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting.
Responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
Understands and implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care.
Assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards.
Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products.
Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
May serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
