The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for preparing and distributing medications for patient consumption under the general supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures. This role involves drug distribution and intravenous admixture throughout the hospital and/or infusion center, competency in automated dispensing systems, and ensuring medications are appropriately barcoded. The technician will also maintain accurate controlled substance inventory, prepare and dispense medications accurately and efficiently, and be certified in chemotherapy preparation practices. Additionally, the role includes generating revenue through billing, maintaining a safe and clean pharmacy environment, documenting pharmacy logs, completing monthly expiration medication assignments, repackaging/unit-dosing medications, and utilizing aseptic technique. Appropriate use of technology for workflow triage, maintaining pharmacy inventory, and assisting healthcare providers with phone calls are also key responsibilities. The technician must be able to prioritize responsibilities and manage time effectively to maintain shift-specific workflow.
