About The Position

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, this role procures, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. The Pharmacy Tech maintains an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies, re-ordering and stocking items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability. They maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products. The role properly operates, troubleshoots, monitors, and cleans departmental automation and equipment, and ensures Pharmacist product verification and facilitates the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity. Additionally, the Pharmacy Tech maintains accurate records and patient profiles including charging and crediting, responds timely to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. They understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring timely and safe patient care. The role also assists with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area. Conducts regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration. Maintains competency and follows departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous products. Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Completes all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion and attends educational in-services as appropriate. Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel and may serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service. May perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional-related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as Pharmacy Technician or completion of ASHP-accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through entire length of employment.
