About The Position
The Pharmacy Technician prepares all medications, (unit dose and IV compounded products) for pharmacist check and ensures delivery to nursing unit for patient administration, refills pyxis units, prepares all floor stock requests, maintains the department’s inventory in a clean and orderly condition, requisitions supplies, processes departmental paperwork, and triages phone calls. This is a full-time position with rotating 8-hour shifts.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Registration with the State of Iowa as a pharmacy technician (or technician trainee if awaiting certification) prior to starting position within the pharmacy.
- National certification acquired through successful completion of any NCCA accredited pharmacy technician certification program.
- At least one sitting for examination must be within 9 months of hire, after achieving the required 500 hours to sit for the test.
- Achievement of certification must be no later than 12 months after hire.
Responsibilities
- Prepare medication orders, including both sterile and non-sterile compounds.
- Process physician medication orders to ensure medications are promptly, accurately, and safely delivered.
- Ensure all work meets regulatory compliance standards as related to the Pharmacy, Pharmacy Automation, Billing, and Inventory, USP 795 / 797.
- Provide courteous, cooperative, and timely service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Refill Pyxis units.
- Prepare all floor stock requests.
- Maintain the department’s inventory in a clean and orderly condition.
- Requisition supplies.
- Process departmental paperwork.
- Triage phone calls.
