About The Position

This is a part-time Certified Pharmacy Technician position, working 64 hours per pay period in the Pharmacy department at Miami Valley Hospital. Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, the technician will engage in various activities that do not require professional judgment, including data entry, label preparation, stocking and retrieving drugs, counting and pouring drugs, and compounding non-sterile and sterile medications after completing site-specific training. The role also involves restocking automated drug storage systems, delivering medications, monitoring inventory levels, and troubleshooting pharmacy equipment and software.

Requirements

  • High School completion / GED
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
  • Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a "Certified Pharmacy Technician" or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
  • No prior job-related work experience
  • Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
  • Able to read and write printed material in English
  • Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
  • Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy.
  • Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
  • Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience

Responsibilities

  • Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
  • Preparing and affixing labels
  • Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
  • Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
  • Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
  • Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
  • Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
  • Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
  • Prepare medication doses prior to a pharmacist’s review & dispensing
  • Perform non-sterile and sterile medication compounding after required training
  • Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets
  • Delivery of medications to patient care areas
  • Monitor drug inventory levels to ensure a continuous supply of medications without stockpiling supplies
  • Troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy
  • Must be familiar with pharmacy software
  • Must use aseptic technique, wear appropriate attire, and follow standards in aseptic compounding
  • Must maintain clean and safe working environment
  • Other duties as assigned
