Requirements

  • Ability to communicate in English and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • High School Graduate
  • Current California Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Current Los Angeles County Fire Card (required within 30 days of employment).
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (required within 30 days of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the procurement, storage, preparation and distribution of medications, all under the direct supervision of a registered Pharmacist.
  • The technician is also responsible for patient billing, inventory control, and other non-discretionary tasks relating to the maintenance of the Pharmacy.
  • Selects the correct drug product from the inventory to fill patient orders and stock orders.
  • Prepares and compounds sterile parental pharmaceuticals and chemo therapeutic agents under the supervision of a pharmacist; prepares the appropriate labeling of these products.
  • Prepacks preparation as needed under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Fills floor stock requests in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Is familiar with all aspects of the computer system, including but not limited to order entry, report generation for cart fills and IV admixture preparation, and billing entry.
  • Knowledge of the special age related needs of patients in the Medical Center, including, but not limited to: Preparation of liquid unit dose syringes and special dosage forms for neonate patients, Special dose form formulations for geriatric patients and comatose patients, Preparation of neonatal and pediatric IV solutions and TPN solutions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.   • Replaces working stocks of drugs, solutions and supplies in the Pharmacy and designated storage areas throughout the Medical Center; informs the Pharmacy Buyer per established procedure; assists in the maintenance of inventory.
  • Answers telephones and takes messages, takes initial calls for requests from the patient care areas. Triage calls and decide which could be handled without interrupting the Pharmacist.
  • Ensures that all charges are being captured and that they are billed within 72 hours.
  • Assures that charges are done within 72 hours of the service date.
  • Operational knowledge of the JB Dev timekeeping system and company policy regarding time management.
