About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician II supports pharmacists in delivering high-quality pharmaceutical care across various Carilion Clinic settings. This role involves advanced technical responsibilities including sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory management, diversion monitoring, mail order processing, and medication safety reporting. The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for collecting, verifying and documenting accurate medication histories for patients in the Emergency Department. Collaborate with pharmacists, primary care providers as well as other sources to ensure comprehensive and reliable records. Assist the pharmacist and patient care team with providing care in emergency situations. Use the Automated Medication Dispensing Equipment (Omnicell). Reviews medication error and adverse drug reaction reports. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely medication delivery, accurate documentation, and high-quality patient service.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 1 to 2 years of pharmacy experience required.
  • Registration with the Virginia Department of Health Professionals required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certified Board Certification relevant to work area is required within 6 months of hire.
  • Must be able to maintain familiarity with a large number (1000-2000) of medications and focused on attention to detail/accuracy.
  • Must be customer service oriented.
  • Requires knowledge and use of general office equipment and procedures, including computer/keyboard.
  • Must be able to solve simple mathematical and logistical problems in the work environment.
  • Must be able to effectively budget time, work efficiently and accurately, and follow procedures with minimum supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of an approved Pharmacy Technician training course is preferred.
  • Successful completion of Pharmacy Service Line competencies within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities
