About The Position

Under the leadership of the department director and/or the assistant director of pharmacy operations, the pharmacy technician is responsible for assisting in pharmacy department activities not requiring a pharmacist’s professional judgment. Duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining patient records/drug profiles, unit dose medication preparation, sterile product preparation, pharmaceutical calculations, data entry into pharmacy computer systems, filling and managing automated dispensing devices, sterile IV and non-sterile additive and chemotherapy compounding, and assisting the pharmacist in providing quality pharmaceutical care. Important dimensions of this position consist of professional commitment, team work, interpersonal skills, safety, good customer relations, fiscal responsibility and broad pharmacy knowledge.

Requirements

  • At least three years pharmacy technician experience required
  • Education as required for State of California Pharmacy Technician licensure
  • Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies
  • State of California Pharmacy Technician license or undergraduate California Pharmacist Intern license is required
  • Must possess a valid California driver’s license
  • Must have an acceptable driving record of three points or less
  • Must participate in the DMV pull-notice program

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital experience preferred
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) is preferred for those hired after March 1, 2024
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is preferred
