Pharmacy Tech II - Mercy San Diego
About The Position
The Pharmacy Tech II works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, performing technical duties that support safe, efficient, and accurate medication preparation and distribution. The position requires competency beyond entry level, including sterile compounding, hazardous medication preparation, inventory oversight, and the ability to perform complex workflows independently. The technician may mentor Pharmacy Technician I staff as assigned and may take on additional advanced duties based on site-specific needs. This is a full-time position at Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, with varied 10-hour shifts and work every other weekend.
Requirements
- Current California Pharmacy Technician License.
- Certification by a National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (CPhT) within 6 months of hire.
- At least 6 months of experience in the current practice environment or in sterile compounding.
- At least 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician in any practice setting.
Nice To Haves
- 2 years of experience in the relevant practice area is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and distribute medications safely, efficiently, and accurately under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
- Perform sterile compounding and hazardous medication preparation.
- Oversee inventory.
- Independently perform complex pharmacy workflows.
- Mentor Pharmacy Technician I staff as assigned.
- Oversee workflow in the main pharmacy as needed.
- Assist technician specialists as needed.
- Perform unit inspections.
- Seal or lock emergency trays or carts.
- Check the work of other technicians (tech-check-tech) based on site-specific needs.
