About The Position

This role focuses on pharmacy support, primarily through telephony outreach. Once training is complete, the individual will work remotely, making pharmacy outreach calls to support various initiatives. They will also be responsible for receiving calls, assisting patients, or triaging them to onsite staff. While flexibility exists, productivity and competency will determine the extent of this flexibility. UH Meds reserves the right to transition this role to an in-office position. Work hours will align with normal pharmacy business hours. A 3 to 6-month training period will take place at a local UH pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician 2 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation, and distribution of medications for patient administration. The Technician 2 functions in all aspects of drug distribution that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist. All assigned activities are performed under the supervision of a Pharmacist.

Requirements

High School Equivalent / GED (Required)
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) State of Ohio CPhT license (Required)
Understanding of metric system and basic math concepts. (Required proficiency)
Good communication skills are essential. (Required proficiency)
Knowledge of personal computer, calculator, facsimile machine. (Required proficiency)

Nice To Haves

Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program. (Preferred)
Prior experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or community setting. (Preferred)
Basic knowledge of pharmacy computer systems and automated dispensing cabinets. (Preferred proficiency)

Responsibilities

Accurate preparation of patient medications including non-sterile products and sterile products (including chemotherapy and TPN).
Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock.
Orients and trains new staff.
Utilizes pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepares dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution.
Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks.
Packaging and selling dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
Support medication history collection process for ED and inpatient units utilizing appropriate sources and communication.
Communicate effectively with patients during the interview and accurately record the medication history.
Maintain open communication with nurses, patient care technicians, practitioners, and other personnel in the hospital to report important findings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
