About The Position

Sentara is hiring a Medication History Pharmacy Technician II for Virginia Beach General Hospital. This role involves performing the technician responsibilities of clinical pharmacy care delivery under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist or licensed independent practitioner. The primary focus will be working in the Emergency Department (ED) to obtain medication histories from patients, discussing current medications with patients or their representatives, and contacting pharmacies, PCPs, or nursing homes for additional medication history if needed. The role may also involve working in the central pharmacy, filling and delivering medications, and ensuring adequate supplies are available. Additionally, the Pharmacy Tech II will participate in training new employees, triaging and escalating issues outside their scope, using appropriate systems for patient information, maintaining quality assurance, operating pharmacy equipment, and participating in clinical initiatives to improve patient care. Training in advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician job functions is also part of this role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Virginia Pharmacy Tech License (Required)
  • CPhT License (Received through the NHA or PTCB) (Required)
  • 2 Years of Pharmacy Experience (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Department Medication History Experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Work in ED to get medication history from patients
  • Discuss with patient or anyone with patient what meds patient currently is on
  • Call pharmacies, PCP, Nursing home to gather additional med history if needed
  • May also work in central Pharmacy (Filling meds, delivery of meds)
  • Participates in the training of new employees
  • Fills and delivers medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner
  • Ensures adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care
  • Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician's scope of practice as needed
  • Uses appropriate systems for processing patient information
  • Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements
  • Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately
  • Participates in clinical initiatives to continuously improve patient care
  • Training in an advanced Clinical Pharmacy Technician job function
