The Pharmacy Tech I assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances, and assisting with medication distribution tasks. The Pharmacy Tech I also screens phone calls, assists with pharmacy procurement and inventory control, and performs nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards where applicable. They inspect medication storage areas, complete medication admission histories, and may participate in quality improvement initiatives or assist in training other technicians. The role requires adherence to all organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and supports area leaders. Responsibilities also include obtaining patient information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, cashiering, and developing competence in third-party billing functions. The role may involve obtaining immunization certification and performing immunizations under supervision, and potentially operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle for deliveries.
