This is a highly independent Operating Room Technician role within a smaller pharmacy team that manages OR Pharmacy satellite operations. The primary work schedule is Monday-Friday with assigned holidays. Weekend overtime is sometimes available. The hours are 4:30 am - 1:00 pm. This role assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to medication preparation and distribution, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. It also involves medication distribution tasks, screening phone calls, assisting with procurement and inventory control, and performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture where applicable. The technician will inspect medication storage areas, document controlled substance activities, and complete medication admission histories. They are expected to seek additional duties when required work is done and accept other assigned duties. Participation in quality improvement initiatives and assisting in training other technicians may also be part of the role. The position requires adherence to all organizational policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, and support for area leaders. Responsibilities also include obtaining patient information, data entry into the pharmacy system, third-party billing functions, and potentially performing immunizations under supervision. A unique aspect of this role is the responsibility for operating an Advocate Health-owned motor vehicle to deliver medications and essential medical supplies.
