PHARMACY TECH - CERTIFIED - PRN / Support - North Campus
About The Position
This position involves a certified pharmacy technician working under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. The technician will engage in various activities related to medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory management. Key responsibilities include data entry, label preparation, stocking and retrieving medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile drugs after training, restocking automated dispensing systems, and delivering medications. The role also requires monitoring drug inventory, troubleshooting pharmacy equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe working environment. Familiarity with pharmacy software and aseptic techniques is essential.
Requirements
- Certified Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
- Registration with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a “Certified Pharmacy Technician” or eligible for registration within 45 days of hire.
- Possess good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and problem solving skills
- Able to read and write printed material in English
- Proficiency with computer keyboard operations
- Ability to compute simple algebraic ratios, volume/volume percentage and weight/volume percentage
- Ability to troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy.
- Must be familiar with pharmacy software
- Possess ability to work well with other health care workers and perform as team member
Nice To Haves
- Completion of an ASHP/ACPE-accredited technician education and training program
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Prior hospital, long-term care or retail experience
- Flexibility in scheduling essential as mentor/trainer of new coworkers
Responsibilities
- Entering information into and retrieving information from a database or patient profile
- Preparing and affixing labels
- Stocking dangerous drugs and retrieving those drugs from inventory
- Counting and pouring dangerous drugs into containers
- Placing dangerous drugs into containers prior to dispensing by a pharmacist
- Non-sterile drug compounding following the completion of site-specific training
- Sterile drug compounding following the completion of a site-specific training
- Stocking automated drug storage systems, floor stock, and crash carts
- Prepare medication doses prior to a pharmacist’s review & dispensing
- Perform non-sterile and sterile medication compounding after required training
- Restock medications in automated dispensing cabinets
- Delivery of medications to patient care areas
- Monitor drug inventory levels to ensure a continuous supply of medications without stockpiling supplies
- Troubleshoot problems and/or do minor maintenance on all pharmacy equipment, printers, computers and telecommunication equipment with adequate training in the pharmacy
- Must be familiar with pharmacy software
- Must use aseptic technique, wear appropriate attire, and follow standards in aseptic compounding
- Must maintain clean and safe working environment
- Other duties as assigned
