About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern functions as a pharmacist-in-training assisting in all areas of a pharmacist’s responsibility allowed by state laws and rules of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Assisting the pharmacist with the preparation of the prescription in an efficient and accurate manner with basic use of pharmacy computer system. Under the supervision of the pharmacist, provides medication information to patients, nurses and other staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy program.
  • Licensed by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as an intern to perform functions of an intern as allowed by OSBP rules prior to hire.
  • Sound interpersonal, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Good listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Needs ability to determine dosages using basic pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Selects appropriate drug, verifying NDC number, and assists with ordering to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Counts with accuracy and double counts all controlled medications, preparing orders for final checks before dispensing by the pharmacist.
  • Selects appropriate packaging, restocking as needed, and applies labels neatly.
  • Uses professional etiquette and displays a professional attitude in the workplace when addressing patients, medical office staff and coworkers.
  • Uses pharmacy computer system to assure accurate patient profiles and billing information is maintained.
  • Takes direction from the pharmacist in charge and develops, implements and/or supports action plans to promote the continuous improvement of performance.
  • Be aware of workflow and able to prioritize volume of work in a neat and safe manner and ensures proper care of equipment.
  • Be able to check in the delivery from the wholesaler, properly tagging items and stocking shelves, rotating stock, verifying receipt of items ordered.
  • Check inventory for outdates, remove from perpetual inventory and follow the return for credit procedures.
  • Provides outstanding customer service and maintains a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Able to process transactions through the pharmacy’s point of sale system with accuracy.
  • Refers all drug questions, legal issues, anything requiring professional judgment to pharmacist in charge providing timely service to address issues or concerns of customers and initiates follow through.
  • Handles stressful situations in an even-tempered manner.
  • Complies with all federal, state and local laws in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Participates in mandatory meetings.
  • Is available to work at the different Genesis Ambulatory-owned pharmacies on occasion as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
