About The Position

Ochsner Specialty Pharmacy is part of Ochsner Health System and is the largest integrated delivery network (IDN) specialty pharmacy in our region. We manage specialty medications which have a complex profile that require intensive patient management. Some specialty medications also require special handling. We provide personalized patient management services that include training in how to use these medications, comprehensive treatment assessment, and patient monitoring. We collaborate with the healthcare team to manage the patient throughout the continuum of care. These expert services that we provide drive adherence and persistency, proper management of medication dosing and side effects, and ensure appropriate medication use. Our patient-centric model is designed to provide a comprehensive and coordinated model of care for patients with chronic illnesses and complex medical conditions, achieve superior clinical and economic outcomes, and expedite patient access to care.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in good standing in an accredited College of Pharmacy or graduate who has successfully passed the NABP Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination
  • Experience working with standard pharmacy and office equipment.
  • Current Pharmacy Intern Permit from the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy, permitted to practice as a pharmacy intern by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately compounds IV Admixtures and other assigned preparations utilizing aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures.
  • Maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room, Central Pharmacy, compounded items and bottles and vials.
  • Accurately fills medication orders.
  • Accurately enters ADR data into computer.
  • Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds.
  • Demonstrates professional growth.
  • Stocks and fills medication orders.
  • Completes assignments and projects.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
