About The Position

The Pharmacy Student Intern, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assists the pharmacist in all aspects of pharmacy practice including preparing medications and clinical monitoring as appropriate. The pharmacy student intern may participate in special projects to further pharmacy practice as guided by the pharmacist. Duties may vary by assigned area or shift. The pharmacy student intern demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served, including neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric.

Requirements

  • High School/GED
  • Actively enrolled in an ACPE accredited school or college of pharmacy.
  • Individual must be in the final 4 years of the professional pharmacy program (i.e. not in “pre-pharmacy” or the first 2 years of a 6-year pharmacy program).
  • The pharmacy student intern may remain in this position for up to 90 days post-graduation.
  • Pharmacy Tech License or Pharmacy Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician Student license (Note: Technician certification is NOT required for pharmacy technician students) OR an Active Michigan Pharmacist Intern license
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be detail oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year pharmacy experience OR 1 year experience in a healthcare setting
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical and medical terminology.
  • Working knowledge in mixing solutions and preparing medications using aseptic technique.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic calculations at a level normally acquired through completion of high school.
