About The Position

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a Pharmacy Specialist for the Medical ICU. This role is responsible for providing safe, effective, and prompt medication therapy. The specialist will support medication-use systems and deliver optimal medication therapy to patients with a broad range of disease states. They will provide direct patient-centered care and integrated pharmacy operational services in a decentralized practice setting, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel. The role involves aligning with interdisciplinary programs and specialty services to deliver medication therapy management and ensure pharmaceutical care programs are integrated throughout the institution. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, incorporating age and disease-specific characteristics into drug therapy and patient education, adjusting care according to patient response, and providing clinical interventions to prevent medication adverse events. The specialist will also serve as a departmental resource, conduct clinical research, participate in quality initiatives, and provide education and training to pharmacy students and residents.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy Degree
  • PGY1 residency training OR 3 years of Adult ICU experience
  • AR licensure or eligible for licensure
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency plus 2 years of adult ICU experience or at least 5 years of equivalent previous clinical experience in adult critical care
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency in critical care or emergency medicine

Responsibilities

  • Oversees patient care functions, including maintaining accurate records and refining medication therapies to improve treatment results.
  • Handles task prioritization, adjusts to shifts in practice, and addresses day-to-day operational challenges.
  • Adhere to pharmacy laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Provides training and instruction to staff members and pharmacy students.
  • Participates in initiatives for process enhancement, policy revisions, or research activities.
  • Other duties as assigned
