PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The Pharmacy Resident will perform duties of a staff pharmacist as required, establish and maintain clinical knowledge or practice that supports the needs of the ministry, and instruct and precept pharmacy students as assigned. They will develop and perform basic patient assessments, act as a liaison between nursing services, pharmacy services, and medical staff, and successfully complete required rotational and longitudinal rotations. The resident will also help recruit at the ASHP Midyear Conference and participate in committees relating to areas of clinical practice expertise. A residency project must be completed and presented as approved by residency program preceptors. Other duties within the scope of practice may be assigned. The resident must obey and adhere to all hospital and facilities policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, including the Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedure manual for residents and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Mercy Health Care Services.
