Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The Pharmacy Resident PGY1 is responsible for the safe, therapeutic and rational provision of drugs within the Adena Health System. This position ensures compliance with all applicable laws, accrediting standards, health system policies and sound pharmaceutical ethics. Decisions are made independently or in collaboration with another pharmacist or licensed health care provider. This position may have access to patient and financial confidential information, non-controlled and controlled drugs and certain hospital funds. The Pharmacy Resident PGY1 maintains competency and works with patients in all age groups unless assigned to work with a specific age group. Depending on area of assignment, the Pharmacy Resident PGY1 may be required to complete the following tasks: direct patient interactions such as medication and disease state education counseling, minor lab procedures and interpret lab results, administer immunizations, and work according to approved health system protocols. As needed, this position may allow or require coverage at any Adena entity.
