PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. This role performs duties of a staff pharmacist as required, establishes and maintains clinical knowledge or practice that supports the needs of the ministry, and instructs and precepts pharmacy students as assigned. The resident develops and performs basic patient assessments, acts as a liaison between nursing services, pharmacy services, and medical staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical pharmacy programs, and successfully completes required rotational and longitudinal rotations. The resident will also help recruit at the ASHP Midyear Conference for upcoming classes and participate in committees relating to clinical practice expertise. A residency project must be completed and presented as approved by preceptors. The role requires adherence to all hospital and facility policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, including the Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedure manual for residents and the Ethical and Religious Directives for Mercy Health Care Services.
