About The Position

In this role, you will serve as a pharmacy advocate for patients on behalf of the clinicians prescribing medication. Your primary focus will be coordinating access to specialty take home medications. Work as part of a high-performing, interdisciplinary team of nurses, physicians, and other health care providers in a rewarding, fast-paced work environment in an academic/clinic setting. This is a unique position allowing a pharmacy technician to utilize/develop pharmacy and leadership skills.

Requirements

  • B.S./B.A. in business or healthcare related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 3 years of pharmacy technician experience or related healthcare experience
  • Pharmacy Technician MN
  • National Technician Certification within 180 Days

Responsibilities

  • Educating patients on their insurance prescription benefits
  • Communicating expectations, timing, and process capably to patients, caregivers, and clinics
  • Expediting patient access to specialty medications by identifying and resolving barriers on behalf of clinic care teams, including: Submitting and following prior authorizations, Supporting providers by assisting with appeals, Coordinating fulfillment of orders with dispensing pharmacies, and assisting patients in being able to financially afford their medications
  • Advising patients on their specialty pharmacy network and identifying limited distribution alternatives
  • Explaining the benefits of enrolling into our specialty pharmacy program without impeding patient choice of pharmacy, and achieving patient participation
  • Acting as an advocate for our specialty pharmacy
  • Partner with multiple specialties, clinics, and medical providers
  • Develop expertise in (at least) one clinical specialty to act as a subject matter expert for the larger liaison team, clinic, and our partners in access services
  • Establishing relationships with industry representatives and reimbursement managers to maintain current knowledge on available financial assistance programs
  • Manage refill scheduling and patient outreach to ensure continuity of therapy, including monitoring refill due dates, coordinating with patients and caregivers to confirm readiness, facilitating timely prescription renewals with providers, and aligning fulfillment with dispensing pharmacy to prevent gaps in treatment.
