About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern will gain hands-on experience by working under the supervision of licensed pharmacists and certified pharmacy staff. The Intern will increasingly perform duties of a pharmacist in accordance with their progression of self-sufficiency and knowledge with each year of education. Most interns work 8-12 hours per week. Expectations are for interns to work two shifts each weekday, Monday – Friday, and four Saturday shifts per semester. Available shifts are Monday through Friday, either 8:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-6:00pm. Saturdays 12:00pm-4:00pm.

Requirements

  • Actively enrolled in The University of Kansas School of Pharmacy.
  • Student must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours during the semester term of the appointment.
  • For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students.

Responsibilities

  • Filling prescriptions and billing insurance
  • Answering the phone and running front counter
  • Assist with prompt and professional customer service and care for patients, customers, pharmacy and health center staff, and outside entities.
  • Collect and maintain patient information, insurance claims, medication distribution and accountability, and other associated records, in accordance with national, state, and internal regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional appearance of self and pharmacy areas in which you are assigned.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacist in accordance with rules and regulations of the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.
