About The Position

A pharmacy intern at Colquitt Regional is responsible for the management of medication inventory throughout the facility, as delegated by the pharmacists on duty and the pharmacist in charge. The intern works within their scope of practice to provide safe and timely medication delivery across the healthcare system. They collaborate with a skilled team of pharmacists, nurses, providers, and other care team members to ensure medications are properly handled from receipt to administration or waste. This role requires the ability to work well under pressure and enjoy regular collaboration with other disciplines to enhance patient care.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a College of Pharmacy.
  • Deductive reasoning and enhanced ability to problem solve.
  • Exceptional customer service, multitasking, and computer skills.
  • Active Georgia Board of Pharmacy Registration.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and professionalism.
  • Trustworthy and dependable.

  • Applicants with 2 or more years’ experience will be strongly considered.

Responsibilities

  • Management of medication inventory throughout the facility.
  • Provide safe and timely medication delivery across the healthcare system.
  • Ensure medications are properly handled from the time of receipt to administration or waste.
  • Daily use of multiple automation and computer software.
  • Receipt of daily drug orders.
  • Maintenance of all stock, including ordering, safe handling, and proper storage.
  • Accountable and responsible handling of narcotics, adhering to all regulatory requirements and policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Follow all policies and procedures for the department and hospital.
  • Preparation of chemotherapy and sterile admixtures in a controlled environment.
  • Delivery of medications to nursing units.
  • Triage of all phone calls and issues coming into department.
  • Assist in retail pharmacy setting to fill prescriptions, and dispense to patients.
  • Prepare medications in unit dose packaging for single patient use.
  • Follow all procedures for maintaining code cart trays, EMS boxes, and procedural boxes that contain medications throughout the hospital.
  • Responsible for continuing education requirements relevant to job competencies, and ongoing professional development.
  • Engagement in all quality improvement within the hospital and department.
