This job, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, involves performing a wide variety of technical and clinical duties for the hospital-wide unit-dose drug distribution system and intravenous admixture program. The intern will maintain confidential reports, enter and retrieve data utilizing the computer system, prepare intravenous medication, fill routine orders for unit dose and prepackaged pharmaceuticals, and provide accurate assistance to the pharmacist in performing daily duties. All orders are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. The role also includes maintaining pharmacy inventory, assisting with ordering and stocking pharmaceuticals, compounding and repackaging medications, and contributing to the effective operation of the department through various activities including computer functions and answering phones. The intern is expected to maintain competence, assist in training new employees, participate in continuous performance improvement and regulatory compliance efforts, and foster an environment of safety.
