About The Position

Learn to provide a strong patient experience by assisting pharmacists and pharmacy team members in accordance with state and federal regulations. Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Model and deliver a distinctive customer experience while learning pharmacy policies, procedures, and customer service practices in preparation for a future pharmacist role.

Under pharmacist supervision, assist with pharmacy practice and patient care within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns. Duties include prescription processing and dispensing, customer service, inventory activities, and maintaining the Pharmacy Department. Complete required training and maintain knowledge of healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.
• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, except in Puerto Rico.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to support a positive customer experience.
• Model customer-service best practices and develop strong relationships with customers.
• Learn from store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers and patients.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision and in accordance with state, federal, and company policies.
• Review and comply with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
• Perform assigned pharmacy duties under pharmacist supervision and Walgreens standard operating procedures for entering, third-party processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists and other healthcare providers with patient care and services within the state scope of practice for pharmacy interns, including patient counseling and health services such as blood pressure checks and medication therapy management.
• Immediately report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and follow company policies and procedures for pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
• Follow the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
• Register related sales on the assigned cash register and collect and handle cash as required.
• Help customers locate over-the-counter products, when possible.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist’s personal attention, including calls to physicians.
• Assist with pharmacy inventory management, including ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments.
• Maintain knowledge of company asset-protection techniques and file claims for pharmaceutical shipment overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods.
• Help maintain the Pharmacy Department by ensuring supplies are adequate and the area is clean, neat, and orderly.
• Comply with company policies and procedures and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
• Complete required training and maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including current news and developments.
