Under the direction of the Inpatient Pharmacy Services, this role follows established policies and procedures to perform a variety of routine technical and clerical support tasks integral to the operation of the Pharmaceutical Department. Tasks include preparation of unit dose medications, outpatient prescriptions, intravenous admixtures, cytotoxic and other investigational drugs. These tasks are designed to assist the department in the preparation and delivery of pharmaceutical supplies and require the authorized review and check of a licensed pharmacist. Also responsible for stocking and reordering of pharmacy supplies, assisting in mail-out orders and replenishing of nursing floor stock. Maintains appropriate patient computer and manual records, and performs computer order entry of patient orders. Assists in nursing unit inspections. Assists with management of investigational drugs. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department. The intern position is expected to work at least one weekend a month (Saturday and Sunday shifts) and one evening each week. During summer and winter breaks, the intern role can work additional hours to train for new skills, support patient care, or shadow pharmacists. Quarterly intern meetings, research projects, and other patient care experiences are available to further develop this person.
