About The Position

Performs in a training pharmacist role and provides technician support under the direct and continuous supervision of a pharmacist. Trains to supervise pharmacy technicians. Gains proficiency in math calculations. Prepares accurate labels utilizing the proper labeling format. Assesses and processes physician medication orders, including age-appropriate criteria, appropriate route, duplication, allergies, and interactions. Prioritizes stat or now orders. Maintains accurate records of computerized patient profiles, controlled substances, IV Compounder, electronic cabinet, pharmacy computer, and unit dose log. Ensures equipment operation and maintenance of IV Hoods, IV Computer, Electronic cabinet (omnicell), electronic Scale, printers, and Computers. Maintains medication stock, including IV fluids, solid and liquid dosage forms, and electronic cabinet or floor stock. Orders and stores medications/supplies appropriately. Conducts nursing unit inspections and maintains crash carts and boxes, removing outdated medications. Performs clinical pharmacy assessments, including lab data, electrolytes, and kinetics. Performs and supervises all general and chemo technician competencies and duties. Prepares/selects age-appropriate medication for compounding, filling, and dispensing. Fills patient medication envelopes with the correct medication from computer labels, ensuring medications are delivered to the proper nursing units, ancillary departments, and pharmacy satellites. Takes appropriate steps to prevent dispensing errors, such as double checking and checking against a copy of the physician’s order. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Interacts with all individuals in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times. Continuously displays a "can do" attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program. Resolves questions with the Pharmacist, Nursing service, and/or Physician. Answers the phone promptly and appropriately. Promotes and maintains professional relationships with other departments. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team. Fosters mature professional relationships with fellow employees. Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in a local ACPE Accredited College of Pharmacy.
  • General computer skills.
  • Strong math skills.

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience preferred.
