Under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs duties of a pharmacy technician such as: filling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations, interviewing patients to obtain medication histories, etc. Provides pharmacy services to the patient care areas and customers by performing clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations and performs duties related to medication ordering, receipt, stocking, and inventory control. Receives and interprets prescriptions for outpatients and enters them into the pharmacy computer system. May learn to check medications prior to dispensing under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, may contact and confer with physicians concerning the appropriate drug, dose, dosing interval, drug allergy, drug-drug interaction, etc., as it relates to documentation of a home medication list as part of a medication history. May provide medication information to other healthcare providers. Assists patients, customers, and other caregivers as needed to obtain prescribed and over-the-counter medications. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building.
