About The Position

The Pharmacy Intern is supervised by a licensed pharmacist and is involved with the preparation, dispensing, and distributing medication to patients. While being supervised, the individual may engage in all activities related to pharmacy practice. Additionally, opportunities to observe clinical pharmacists will be offered to interns during their available hours, subject to staffing availability. This is a Part-Time position with Day shifts. During academic breaks, the hours are variable 1st shift, Monday-Friday with weekend, evening, and holiday rotation (40 hrs weekly). During academic sessions, weekend shifts/rotation (16 hrs). The intern undertakes the responsibilities of a pharmacy technician, including tasks such as fulfilling medication orders, delivering medications, compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations, and gathering medication history, all under the supervision of a pharmacist. Opportunities also include site and/or system pharmacy intern leadership positions, mock job/residency interviews with CV review, project opportunities with site and system leadership, and an Intern Development series. Certification is available upon completion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and current enrollment in an accredited College of Pharmacy required
  • All interns seeking practical pharmacy experience toward licensure as a pharmacist must register with the Board's internship program
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited or approved program in Pharmacy
  • Enrolled in the first or second year of a Doctor of Pharmacy degree program
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to details
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Effective multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Must demonstrate integrity, maturity, dependability, a positive attitude and enthusiasm
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Fulfilling medication orders
  • Delivering medications
  • Compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations

  • Prepares medications for dispensing

  • Perform duties related to medication ordering, receipt, stocking, and inventory control
  • Performs clerical duties in the pharmacy to ensure efficient operations
  • Receives and interprets medication/prescription orders and enters them into the pharmacy computer system
  • Performs medication and prescription billing activities
