About The Position

The Pharmacy Director oversees the safe and efficient provision of pharmacy services at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital. The role leads the pharmacy team, manages department operations and performance, and provides direct patient and pharmaceutical care. The director maintains competence in clinical health-system pharmacy practices, ensures regulatory compliance, supports medication safety and evidence-based care, and collaborates on departmental budgeting. The position also involves leading and serving on hospital committees and developing pharmacy staff.

Requirements

• A pharmacy degree from a U.S.-accredited program, or an international program evaluated by a recognized certifying agency as substantially equivalent to U.S. accreditation standards.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
• A pharmacy license in good standing from the State Pharmacy Board for the state where the hospital is located.

Responsibilities

• Communicate the hospital and organization’s mission to pharmacy staff, hold staff accountable for performance, and motivate them to develop their capabilities.
• Oversee pharmacy department operations, including scheduling, ongoing assessment, and process improvements.
• Provide direct patient and pharmaceutical care.
• Demonstrate and maintain competence in antimicrobial stewardship, sterile and non-sterile drug preparation, controlled substances, hospital pharmacy accreditation, anticoagulation drug therapy management, and medication safety.
• Educate staff on pharmaceutical care and medication management.
• Ensure the pharmacy complies with local, state, and national regulations.
• Stay current with new medications, indications, and evidence-based medicine.
• Collaborate with the Controller to prepare and manage departmental budgets for staffing, drugs, and supplies.
• Serve on and lead hospital committees, including Quality Assurance, Formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, MEC, and Safety, as needed.
