About The Position

The Pharmacy Clerk is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department. This role involves managing prescription intake, processing, and dispensing, as well as handling customer interactions, inventory management, and cash register operations. The clerk must ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with pharmacy procedures.

Requirements

  • Proof of completion of high school with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 or completion of General Educational Development (GED) with a minimum overall score of 162.5.
  • If an individual has completed a degree at a higher level than required by the role and had a stronger GPA in that program, they may provide proof of GPA from that degree in lieu of the high school diploma.
  • Two years of experience and knowledge of pharmacy processes and practices, typically learned on the job or successful completion of a pharmacy externship with Family HealthCare Network.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Proficiency in technical systems.
  • Ability to prepare basic correspondence and simple reports in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to create tables and simple displays of information.
  • Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Ability to effectively communicate routine or non-technical information to co-workers and others.
  • Effectively communicates written information (including electronic correspondence) and verbal presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the daily operations of the Pharmacy Department, including receiving new prescriptions, entering information into the Pharmacy Practice Management system, and processing labels for new and refill prescriptions.
  • Consulting with the Pharmacist when warning or Drug Utilization Review (DUR) screens appear during label processing.
  • Handling prescription refill requests.
  • Stocking medications and filling supply bins with prescription vials and lids.
  • Answering and directing phone calls, and checking for messages and faxes.
  • Verifying specific patient insurance information.
  • Filing paperwork and prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist-in-charge.
  • Completing and processing third-party documents and transmissions, authorizations, and Treatment Authorization Requests (TAR).
  • Keeping the Pharmacy work areas clean and organized.
  • Delivering medications and prescriptions to other sites as per staff pharmacist and/or Director of Pharmacy instructions.
  • Maintaining accurate logs of delivered medications and prescriptions.
  • Operating the cash register during patient prescription pick up, processing cash and credit card transactions, and obtaining patient signatures for insurance log documentation.
  • Informing the Pharmacist for prescriptions requiring Pharmacist consultation with the patient.
  • Counting and maintaining accurate assigned cash in the cash register.
  • Processing daily transaction reports and preparing bank deposits.
  • Ordering medications through the software system.
  • Processing incoming medication orders to determine that items ordered were shipped and that items shipped are the same as items invoiced to the pharmacy.
  • Returning outdated/expired, damaged, overstock, and recalled merchandise for credit and proper disposal.
  • Checking expiration dates and rotating or removing stock medications.
  • Assisting the Pharmacist-in-charge with inventory processes.
  • Monitoring prescriptions in the wait area by checking fill dates and removing prescriptions over seven days old or as instructed by the PIC.
  • Reversing orders online.
  • Adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
